Overview
For Kimberlee Koym-Murteira, art is a dynamic interplay between tangible and intangible realms, a fusion of video, light, water, and installation. In her portfolio, she showcases her unique creations, which traverse the boundaries of materiality to explore themes of Trauma, Healing, Spirituality, and Ecology. Rooted in a somatic approach, Kimberlee's work invites viewers into a visceral dialogue with the forces shaping our world.
As the designer entrusted with translating Kimberlee's vision into a digital gallery space, my role was to harmonize her artistic ethos with the online medium. While Kimberlee provided the visual layout inspiration, I meticulously curated her archive, ensuring a seamless transition to the new website,
Through a careful balance of form and function, the website not only showcases Kimberlee's portfolio but also reflects her ethos as an artist. By embracing technology as a conduit for artistic expression, the website serves as both a tool and an interrupter, echoing Kimberlee's own dynamic relationship with the digital realm. CHALLENGES
Compiling the artist's previous archive proved to be a time-consuming task, impacting the project deadline. However, this process provided invaluable insight into the artist's style and body of work, ultimately enhancing the final outcome. Also, the iterative design process required several rounds of adjustments to align with the artist's vision of a blank gallery space and to achieve the desired level of engagement. I realize this could have been done quicker had I prioritize the user research before going into the first few iterations.
GOING FORWARD
Embracing an iterative design process, I aim to streamline communication and user research efforts from the outset to reduce the number of iterations required to align with the artist's vision. Furthermore, I will prioritize effective interpretation and implementation of the artist's desires, emphasizing collaborative dialogue and utilizing specific strategies to capture the desired ambiance and showcase the artwork effectively. By integrating these learnings into future projects, I am committed to delivering results that not only meet but exceed the expectations of my clients.
